Contact Best Steel Tubes Suppliers in Australia for Industrial Needs

A steel tube is a type of metal with a hollow tubular cross section. Steel Tubes Suppliers are those who manufacture the steel tubes and then supply or else buy steel tubes from a vendor and then supply to wholesalers or retailers.

Types of Steel Tubes

Steel can be divided into four types according to their chemical compositions:
  • Carbon steel: Carbon Steel is again divided into three categories: Low carbon, Medium Carbon, and High carbon steel. Low carbon steel contains 0.04% to 0.30% carbon content. It is one of the largest groups of steel. It comes in various shapes like a flat sheet, structural beam, etc. Medium carbon steel has a carbon content of 0.31% to 0.60% and a manganese content of .060% to 1.65%. It is stronger than low carbon steel and more difficult to cut. High carbon steel has a carbon range from 0.61% to 1.50%. It is very difficult to cut.
  • Alloy Steel: Apart from carbon this steel has, small amounts of other elements like aluminum, manganese, silicon, nickel, titanium, copper and chromium. Alloy steel is economical, easy to process, widely available and has good mechanical properties.

  • Stainless steel: It is an alloy of iron and chromium (10.5%). With the help of chromium, which creates an oxide layer on the surface of steel, it gets prevented from corrosion. Increasing the levels of chromium gives a boost to the shelf life of the steel. It also contains varying amounts of carbon, manganese, and silicon. Nickel and Molybdenum can be added to it to increase corrosion resistance.
  • Tool Steel: It is that steel which has the properties of abrasion resistance and high hardness. It is used in stamping dies, cutting, mold making, making hammers and knives. It is available in shapes like flat bar, square bar, round bar and much more.
Steel can also be classified on factors other than chemical composition like the production method, form or shape, microstructure, finishing method, heat treatment, quality nomenclature, physical strength and deoxidation process.

Process of Manufacture

There are three methods of making steel tubes:
  • Drawn over mandrel: A mandrel is a small metal piece fixed into a tube to shape it. It gives extra support to the tube and prevents wrinkling while drawing. The tube is passed through a die which has a smaller diameter and it makes the tube shrinks to the die’s size.
  • Electric Resistant Welded: In this method, between two weld rollers, a rolled steel of sheet is passed. The steel roll passes through the groove of the weld rollers and the weld becomes small.
  • Seamless: These steel tubes are made through a process called as extrusion. This process can be hot or cold, long steel sections are shaped by being forced into a die.

Uses of Steel Tubes

Steel Tubes are used for transporting potable water as they can maintain clean water. They are also used for structural support in buildings and vehicles. Steel tubes are also used in many industries like gas, sewage, car, mechanical and electrical. They are also used in domestic work and space stations. They are also used in the medical industry.
