The Basic Facts About Tube and Pipe Bending Concepts

Bending stands out as an important step in the process of manufacturing of industrial pipes and tubes, which again plays a critical role in construction and transportation of materials. Most of the bent pipe and tubes function as structural components, that facilitates strong construction and also transfer.

Bending of Tube and Pipes

Bending can be carried out through various processes which include roll bending, press, ram, however, each method is based on certain principles. These principles include elongation, bend radius facilitating tube bending and pipe bending operations. Such principles can also influence the effectiveness of a pipe and its manufacturing, which is one of the major reasons it is crucial to keep an eye on the principles.

Force of bending
While tube or pipe is bent, the exterior of the wall gets bent and starts to stretch or thin out. However, interior segment gets thicker and compressed. The thick tubes have a wide radius and have a low degree of deformation, but thinner tubes do not behave in a similar way. I order to determine the bending radius if it is tight or wide, the radius and an external diameter of the tube should be closely checked.

Mandrel functions
If the tube does not fit well within the workpiece, then it is not right to follow the usual criteria of shaping or bending it.  When the wall factor measures and grows larger from thin wall, bend radius gets thicker and increase chances of the flattening bend. If the wall is thin and integrity of pipe has to be maintained then it is recommended to use mandrel functions. It very well compensates for the weakness. The mandrel is a device that can be fixed towards the interior of the tube, to provide support at the bending point. The mandrel can be designed as a plug or sequence of balls such that it adjusts appropriately towards the bend. Apart from providing adequate support, the mandrel can also be used for exerting an additional bending force on thicker tubes and giving pipe an appropriate shape.

Wiper die
In the case of severe bending which involves the use of thin tubes undergoing the bending process, there are chances that it develops unevenly and causes a wrinkling defect in the pipe. In such situations, wiper die is appropriate to use for reducing the risk of wrinkling in the workpiece. The wiper is designed such that it can be wedged towards the groove, i.e. between the tube and bending die. Thus wiper is fit to complete the gap between the bending die and tube, which can leave the tube, constricted thus removing the space between the pipes that can cause wrinkles to develop.

Elongation
It is the degree by which a tube or pipe can bend or stretch before breaking. While stretching is a usual process in the tube and bending process, elongation can be a major concern for manufacturers. The selection of material can be analyzed by the level of elongation of pipes or tubes. Stainless steel is the maximum elongation which is far above than other forms of materials making it an appropriate choice for bending process without causing any fracture in the material.

Conclusion
Above enlisted are some of the facts about tube bending which is of crucial importance for choosing adequate materials. For construction companies that are in search of appropriate tubes or pipes, they can preferably approach steel companies for making choice. The industrial tube is amongst the best steel companies that can provide customers with appropriate tubes or pipes comfortable for bending and processing for construction.
